The Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese took part in the 21st Annual Syros Seminar on the Information Society & the Knowledge Economy, one of the country’s most important annual institutional gatherings on innovation, technology, and regional development. The Seminar is organized by the INFOSTRAG Group of the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) at the National Technical University of Athens, together with the Cyclades Chamber of Commerce, and included thematic sessions on Regional Development & Entrepreneurship, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence, Technology Transfer and University Transformation, as well as R&D&I Policies & the Production Model.
Within this framework, the Innovation Office was presented through two talks. Ms. Tzina Tsami, Deputy Coordinator of the Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese, delivered a presentation entitled “Innovation Office: the role of the quadruple helix in the transformation of the Region of Peloponnese,” presenting the Office’s work, structure, and objectives, as well as its key actions in supporting businesses, research bodies, and public organizations across the Region — strengthening their collaboration and contributing to the development of a more competitive and outward-looking innovation ecosystem.
Following this, Dr. Vangelis Siokas, Associate Professor at the University of Peloponnese, and Ms. Eleni Mitsea, Coordinator of the Innovation Office of the Region of Peloponnese, jointly presented the talk “From Patents to Smart Specialization: Mapping Technological and Research Activity,” based on the Office’s Study on the Identification of Innovations & Patents. The study recorded and analyzed over 600 research projects from the University of Peloponnese, comparing them against international technological trends and patent data, with the aim of identifying areas where local research lags behind or leads internationally, as well as specific technological solutions developed by the University that are already ready to be adopted by businesses in the region. In doing so, the study provides the Region with a clear framework of priorities, ensuring that future research and funding decisions target the areas where they can have the greatest real impact.
Together, the two talks formed a comprehensive picture of the Innovation Office: the first highlighted its role as a connecting link between businesses, the university, the public sector, and citizens, while the second showcased the research data and technological capabilities on which this connection is built. The Innovation Office’s presence at the Syros Seminar forms part of its broader work in bridging academic research with the real economy, through the systematic strengthening of collaboration among universities, businesses, research bodies, and public authorities across the Region of Peloponnese.
